Dietrich scores top-ten in Ironman 55; Knoxville Nationals preliminary action kicks-off Wednesday

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

GETTYSBURG, Pa. (August 9, 2021) – After kicking-off his Ironman 55 weekend with a 17th-place showing during preliminary competition on Friday, August 6, “Double-D” Danny Dietrich performed the ultimate rebound and wrapped up the 2021 Ironman 55 at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Missouri, with a top-ten score, finishing eighth, officially, after starting 11th on the 55-lap, $20,000-to-win grid.

Impressive enough, Dietrich was ninth with two circuits remaining, eventually sneaking by ten-time World of Outlaws champion, Donny Schatz, as the white flag waved.

The result was Dietrich’s sixth top-ten finish of the 2021 season against the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series, two of which accomplished inside the top-five.

Dietrich kicked-off his Ironman 55 finale campaign with the 11th fastest time during qualifying time trials, driving on to finish third in his respective heat race; there were 34 cars entered for action.

“Hats off to my guys. Friday didn’t go as well as we wanted. We were forced to dig ourselves out of the Last Chance Showdown, but to turn things around and nail down a top-ten on Saturday is pretty awesome, especially against a field like that,” Dietrich said of his top-ten at I-55, driver of the Gary Kauffman Racing, Weikert’s Livestock, Sandoe’s Fruit Market, Pace Performance, Big Cove Whitetail Trophy Hunts, Bowhunters Superstore, Drop Of Ink Tattoo, Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC, Self Made, Graver’s Garage, Racer’s New & Used Parts Warehouse, No. 48 sprint car. “The real reason we’re out here starts Wednesday. It all begins with qualifying. We’re going to do whatever we can to get this No. 48 locked into Saturday’s finale.”

In an attempt to gain some valuable lap time at Knoxville Raceway, Danny Dietrich and Gary Kauffman Racing entered the 10th annual Capitani Classic on Sunday, August 8; Dietrich retired after qualifying and heat race action.

“Double-D” will begin his 2021 Knoxville Nationals effort with preliminary action on Wednesday, August 11. Saturday’s Nationals A-Main will award $150,000-to-win and $10,000-to-start. In addition, $1,000 of lap money will be awarded for every lap led in the 50-lap finale bumping the total winning potential to $200,000.
