GETTYSBURG, Pa. (August 16, 2021) – Despite being forced to wait through Thursday’s program to find out his fate for the rest of the weekend, “Double D” Danny Dietrich sealed the deal and accomplished what every competitor wanted, ultimately qualifying for the 60th Knoxville Nationals A-Main.
Dietrich, driver of the Gary Kauffman Racing, Weikert’s Livestock, Sandoe’s Fruit Market, Pace Performance, Big Cove Whitetail Trophy Hunts, Bowhunters Superstore, Drop Of Ink Tattoo, Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC, Self Made, No. 48 sprint car, utilized a sound time trials effort, a Last Chance Showdown transfer position, and a 16th-place finish during preliminary main event action to end Wednesday’s qualifying night ninth in the overall standings.
Once Thursday’s program was complete, the final numbers were tallied and Dietrich was 16th in the overall standings, locking the Gettysburg, Pennsylvania-native into the 50-lap, $150,000-to-win main event.
Unfortunately for Dietrich, his 50-lap campaign would be cut short, choosing to go back to his pit stall once the leaders caught the tail of the field; he was scored 24th.
“I didn’t want our Nationals to end like that, but we’ll take what we’ve accomplished and move on,” Dietrich said after his Nationals A-Main effort. “I made some wrong choices in the first few laps and that put us behind the eight ball. I refused to be in the way so I decided it was best to park it. Hats off to his entire team. We proved that we belonged with the best and I’m proud of our results to get to that point. We’ll regroup this week and try again with three races this weekend.”
Danny Dietrich and Gary Kauffman Racing will return to competition with three races in three days, set to visit Williams Grove Speedway on Friday, August 20, Lincoln Speedway on Saturday, August 21, and Trail-Way Speedway on Sunday, August 22. “Double-D” will enter the tripleheader with three victories on the season with his most recent accomplished at Selinsgrove Speedway on July 20.
