GETTYSBURG, Pa. (July 25, 2022) – Danny Dietrich and Gary Kauffman Racing put together a stellar week in Central Pennsylvania, not only attaining their tenth victory of the season in a start at BAPS Motor Speedway on Sunday, July 24, but they also accomplished a pair of podium scores against the Greatest Show On Dirt, one of which in Williams Grove Speedway’s annual Summer Nationals finale on Saturday, July 23.
Dietrich, who started fourth on the $20,000-to-win Summer Nationals grid, was on a torrid pace in the final few circuits and nearly passed eventual winner, Brad Sweet, for the lead. Utilizing the bottom groove, Dietrich rocketed off the second corner to get by Sheldon Haudenschild for second with just a lap and a half remaining, next setting aim on Sweet. Unfortunately, a lapped car, also using the bottom groove, would negate Dietrich’s final lap momentum which forced the Gettysburg native to take a backseat to Sweet.
“Double-D” was second at Port Royal Speedway, as well, getting by Donny Schatz to secure the position with still 26 laps on the counter. Kyle Larson, who drove on to win at the “Speed Palace,” was too quick to gain on.
“I’m thrilled with a second, especially two on the week against these guys,” Dietrich said after Williams Grove. “I was just waiting for the track to come to me and not use up my tires. We hit about five to go and I decided to trunk the wing, let it eat, and get going, but I just ran out of time. It’s hard to say it would’ve played out, but Brad was really good. When this place gets super slick like that it gets really fun.”
As noted, Dietrich attained his tenth victory of the 2022 season on Sunday night at BAPS Motor Speedway, leading every lap of the program before crossing the line nearly nine seconds ahead of the competition; it was Dietrich’s first win of the year at BAPS Motor Speedway.
Danny Dietrich and Gary Kauffman Racing will continue their 2022 campaign with routine visits to Williams Grove Speedway and Port Royal Speedway on Friday and Saturday, July 29-30.
